Let Us Play

Let Us Play recently received a second year of funding from The Barbara Ward Children's Foundation. The funding helps to pay for the 400 hours of activities the charity provide for children with special needs and disabilities in the Wolverhampton area every year. Let Us Play recently organised an 'everything Italian' day where 85 children with disabilities were able to partake in crafts such as making mosaics, glass painting, venetian mask making and making a small clay sculpture. The day had cookery activities such as ice-cream sundae making and making an Italian dessert to take home for tea. They were also visited by a Roman soldier who told them about tales of Roman life and just how cold it really was up on Hadrian's Wall wearing a skirt. The children were able to march using replica weapons and shields and defend themselves from an onslaught of foam spears using Roman techniques. The day also included giant games including hopscotch which was invented by the Romans. Kim Hatton the charity's manager said "The support of The Barbara Ward Foundation makes fun days like this possible. The children have had such a rewarding day with lots of new experiences which have stretched and challenged them and given parents a well deserved day off".
